Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce thanks the sponsors, auction donors, and attendees who supported out 5th Annual Veteran’s Benefit Auction on April 14, 2012. This was our second year partnering with Harbor Homes of Nashua to benefit their Veteran’s FIRST Program. The Auction took place at Alpine Grove in Hollis beginning at 6:00 PM with wonderful hors d’oeuvres during the Silent Auction. A full family style dinner was prepared by their expert chefs prior to the Live Auction.

The Silent and Live Auction raised funds to expand emergency housing for service members and their families in need. Housing is available for a two year period to give them the opportunity to take advantage of job training, workplace readiness and counseling. This support enables veterans to become self supporting and provide for themselves and their families.
Harbor Homes, Inc. of Nashua offers a variety of residential housing programs with varying degrees of independence to meet the individual needs of the residents. Non-Veterans FIRST residential programs are also provided, designed to empower individuals toward recovery and integration in our community. Veterans FIRST (Federal Investment Recognizing our Servicemen and women in Transition) began in 2004 and offers a second chance for those brave individuals who have kept our nation safe and secure.

1st Annual Souhegan Valley Chowder Chili Cookoff
Calling All Cooks – Make A Great Chowder or A Mean Chili? Prove It!
The 1st Annual Souhegan Valley Chili Chowder Cook Off took place on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 1:00 to 6:00 pm at the Amherst Business Center on Route 101A in Amherst, NH. Home cooking enthusiasts competed against restaurant chefs for the best chili and chowders in several categories judged by pros in the food industry. Attendees were able to taste all and vote on their favorites to win the “People’s Choice” awards. Winners in each category received cash prizes as well as bragging rights and free entry into next year’s cookoff to defend their title!
The First Annual Chili Chowder Cook Off was a big hit! There were big crowds, great food and beverages, wonderful entertainment – what could be better on a sunny Sunday afternoon!?

The Souhegan Valley Chili Chowder Cookoff benefits Opportunity Networks, a non profit organization that provides meaningful employment and training to adults living with developmental and acquired disabilities in the Southern New Hampshire community. Opportunity Networks provides life skills and social opportunities for clients who range in age from 21 to well into their 60s. Clients work and volunteer for a broad range of local businesses.
